Ron Hextall Out as Flyers’ GM

Fans have been clamoring for a change for weeks and they got one. Probably not the one that was expected but this change was much needed. This is likely just the first shoe to drop as the Flyers look to find a new direction.

The former Flyers’ goaltender has been with the organization’s management since 1999 and took over as the Flyers’ GM in 2014. Tasked with the challenge of getting the Flyers out of the mess left by Paul Holmgren and was successful in that aspect. Hextall dug the Flyers out of a cap mess by moving large contracts in return for draft picks which he used to build his depleted prospect pool.

For now, Paul Holmgren will take over as GM as he searches for a new leader to step in for Hextall.

Holmgren’s press conference will be tomorrow at 11 am
