Coming into the evening riding the success of their last 3 matchups, the Hershey Bears faced off against the Milwaukee Admirals in a rare home contest, hosting a club from the Western Conference.
It was Star Wars night at the Giant Center, and The Force seemed to be with the Bears, as a strong shot from defenseman Aaron Ness was deflected in front of Milwaukee goaltender Tom McCollum by everyone’s favorite Aussie, Nathan (Sky)Walker, putting the boys in black up 15 minutes into the first frame on the power play. The Empire would strike back however, as Anthony Richard netted his own power play goal just three and a half minutes later, evening the score.
Hershey would ultimately falter at the hands of Milwaukee’s Dark Side, conceding 2 unanswered goals to the Admirals in the closing two periods. The Bears went a less-than-ideal 20% (1/5) on the power play for the evening, spoiling many of their opportunities due to a lack of quality scoring chances up front, and the inability to break down Milwaukee’s penalty killing formation.
Hershey was not without their own defensive worse for the evening, as well, as their lack of net-front presence in their own end created havoc for rookie goaltender Ilya Samsonov, who successfully stopped fifteen out of eighteen shots on the night.
The Bears return to action on Friday night in Springfield to face the Thunderbirds at 7:05 pm. Stay tuned to @bearsgngh on twitter, and on Caps Radio 24/7 for coverage.
